The vines

Nowadays, the most important cultivated product of the region is the vine which has replaced other products such as fruit or the olive tree.

The objective of the region is to produce wines, liqueurs and "cavas" -Catalan/Spanish champagne- of high quality. 

The wines of the region are protected by the Denominació d’Origen Penedès, This marks an extension of 26.500 has and characterizes the region as a vine growing one. It has brought great dynamism to the area and opened up many new possibilities for the future.

It has also brought many companies to Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, one of the most important towns in the region. 

The wine and cava industry has been the resurgent force behind the agrarian economy, not only of the Alt Penedès and the regions included in the denomination of origin, but also in other vine growing regions in Catalunya, where vineyards are established or huge amounts of grapes are bought (Alt Camp, Conca de Barberà, etc.).
